Zahedi Dates
Zahedi dates (also known as Zahedi dates, Qasab dates, or Zahdi dates) are a premium semi-dry variety from Iran, prized for their high shelf life, easy transportation, and balanced flavor, making them one of Iran’s top exported date types. They are cultivated in Iran’s southern and southwestern tropical regions, including Bushehr province (especially Dashtestan and Tallhe), Fars (Kazeroon, Qir-o-Karzin, Firuzabad), Khuzestan, Hormozgan, and parts of Kermanshah.
Physical and Sensory Characteristics
- Shape and size — Oval or round, medium-sized (weight per date 8–12g, length 3–4 cm).
- Color — Golden to light brown or chocolate brown (when fully ripe).
- Skin — Relatively thick, wrinkled, and dry.
- Texture — Semi-dry, firm yet chewy, with minimal syrup (low moisture, approximately 10–20%).
- Flavor — Mildly sweet with nutty, caramel, or butterscotch-like notes; less sweet than moist varieties like Mazafati.
These traits allow Zahedi dates to be consumed primarily dry, with excellent longevity (up to 1–2 years without refrigeration) and suitability for export.
