Kalute Dates

Kalouteh dates (also known as Kalouteh dates, Kalooteh dates, Kaliteh dates, or Kliteh dates) are a premium semi-moist Iranian variety, highly valued for export due to their close resemblance to Mazafati dates, pleasant flavor, fleshy texture, and good shelf life. Their primary origin is Kerman province in southern Iran, particularly regions like Jiroft, Anbarabad, Kahnuj, and Rudbar, where hot climate and suitable soil produce the best quality.

Physical and Sensory Characteristics

  • Shape and size — Oval and elongated, medium to large (length approximately 2.5–4 cm, weight 8–15g).
  • Color — Red in the khalal stage; dark brown to black when ripe (lighter than Mazafati).
  • Skin — Thin to medium, slightly wrinkled and glossy.
  • Texture — Soft, fleshy, and semi-moist (moisture 14–22%, less than Mazafati but more than dry varieties).
  • Flavor — Mildly sweet with caramel notes; similar to Mazafati but slightly firmer and less syrupy.
